The Mycobacteria Research Laboratory (MRL) was established in 2006 at the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology (ISMB), a joint UCL and Birkbeck, University of London institute. In 2026, we are proud to celebrate 20 years of sustained commitment to understanding antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and accelerating the discovery of new antimicrobial drugs to tackle drug-resistant infections.
Across two decades, the laboratory has also helped early career researchers build lives and careers in science and beyond. Our alumni have gone on to work in the biopharmaceutical industry, global healthcare, clinical trial services and data management, as well as to develop successful careers in academia, from assistant and associate professor roles to full professorships and senior leadership positions in the UK and internationally. Their achievements are an important part of the MRL story.
To mark this anniversary and widen access to our growing international scientific community, I am delighted that we will offer the Chair’s ISMB–MRL Anniversary ECR Scholarship at the 3rd International TB & Mycobacteriology Conference.
Please share your abstract through the conference submission portal for consideration.
Submit AbstractSuccessful scholars will receive free conference registration and may compete for the ECR Best Presentation Award.
We are grateful to Impact Research Communications for sponsoring these ECR scholarships and competition prizes.
Over the past few years, this meeting has developed into an exciting platform for high-quality, cross-disciplinary research spanning tuberculosis, mycobacteriology, antimicrobial resistance, host–pathogen interactions, diagnostics, drug discovery and translational science. Our ambition is to showcase excellent science and create meaningful opportunities for early career researchers to present their work, establish collaborations, develop international networks and begin shaping their own scientific leadership journeys. I look forward to welcoming the next generation of researchers to this anniversary year and to celebrating the people and partnerships that will help shape the future of TB and mycobacterial research.
